Bomber bids to skip to record - VIDEO
BOXING legend Herol 'Bomber' Graham is hoping to skip into the record books!
The former British, Commonwealth and European boxing champion is undertaking a physically gruelling 27-hour challenge next month in aid of Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity.
"I want to be able to say I'm the world champion of something - whether it's skipping or anything else, I don't care!" joked the boxer, who is renowned as one of the best fighters to have never won a world title.
"Of course I think it's possible. I know it's going to be hard work but I want to go for it."
Last year Herol completed a 24-hour skip and is confident he can reach the 27-hour finishing line. The current record stands at 26 hours.
"After the last time my body was aching, I had pain everywhere and my legs had completely given up. I remember it was the last third that was the hardest, thinking, 'Can I do this?', but I think I can and the children's charity is what will keep me going."
A charity spokesman said: "Herol has so much enthusiasm. He's so supportive of us and we'll be backing him all the way."
It will be no easy feat for the 50-year-old athlete, who is expected to burn around 24,000 calories during the challenge with only one five-minute break every hour.
"Oh man, it's going to be tough," said trainer Steve Cheetham, who's been working with Herol for 30 years. "Anyone who can attempt this has got to be pretty special as even just a couple of hours of skipping can be debilitating."
Herol will be doing his skipping challenge on May 8 and 9 at Ponds Forge.
