A BOGUS policeman gained entry to an elderly woman’s home in South Yorkshire and left with her savings.

Police today issued an appeal to track down the man posing as a plain-clothes police officer to carry out the distraction burglary in Milton Road, Mexborough, Doncaster, which happened on Monday January 31 at around 4.30pm.

The occupant of the house, an 88-year-old woman, invited him in and after he left she discovered a large amount of money was missing.

The man, aged 40 to 50, was wearing a light-coloured jacket and a trilby-style hat.

Before this incident on Thursday January 20 around 12pm, it was reported that a man was going door to door in the Milton Road area selling household goods.

He was also aged between 40 and 50 and about 5ft 5ins.

Police are not sure if the incidents are linked but they are keen to trace the man selling goods to help them with their enquiries.
