Bodybuilding champs lift three top titles

A TRIO of Sheffield bodybuilders stormed to victory in the British Championships, bringing three of the six gold medals home to the Steel City.

Firefighters Richard Lee and Delroy Galloway, along with Denton Wilson, each won gold in the natural British bodybuilding contest, taking half of the top titles.

Richard, a firefighter at Darnall station, came top in the novice category, after taking up bodybuilding just eight months ago.

Delroy, who works from the firefighters training centre, won the middleweight title.

Denton, who runs his own education scheme working with young people warning about the dangers of drugs, won the over-50s category.

All three had qualified in different rounds held across the country and trained vigorously in the run up to the contest - Richard and Del at Lloydies gym in Pitsmoor, and Denton at the Sheffield Fitness Centre.

But despite weeks of a strict diet of chicken, fish, rice and pulses, along with gruelling workouts, Richard, aged 35 from Woodhouse Mill, said it had all been worth it.

The father of Gracie, seven, and Sadie, five, who is married to Alex, said: "It is very hard work and it all impacts on your wife and your kids too, because of the amount of time you spend training and the strict diet you have to be on. It does rule your life.

"But when I won it made it all worthwhile - there's no better feeling than to say that you've won the British championship, especially when you've only been doing it for six to eight months."
