Body found in woodland

AN INVESTIGATION is underway into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man found hanged in woodland.

The body of Wesley Roper, aged 20, from Kendray in Barnsley, was discovered in a private wooded area on Hunningley Lane on Monday night.

South Yorkshire Police said the landowner made the grim discovery and raised the alarm but when police and paramedics arrived Mr Roper was already dead.

Mr Roper had been reported missing by his worried family five days earlier and enquiries were under way to find him. A post mortem examination was due to be held today.
