THE remains of a woman have been exhumed from a South Yorkshire grave to establish how she died.

Police have not named her, but it is understood to be 34-year-old Sharon Taylor, who was found dead at her home in Dodworth, on November 1 last year.

South Yorkshire Police sealed off Barnsley Road, Silkstone, Barnsley, to allow the exhumation of Ms Taylor’s grave at All Saints and St James’s Church, Silkstone last week.

South Yorkshire Police said the exhumation was part of ‘an ongoing investigation on behalf of the coroner to establish the cause of death of the woman who died in 2011’.

A post mortem conducted following the woman’s death was unable to provide an explanation, so coroner Chris Dorries has now ordered a ‘forensic post mortem’ examination.

It is understood Ms Taylor’s family have raised questions about her death.

A police spokesman said: “This is not part of a criminal investigation at this time.

“The decision to exhume the woman’s body has been taken with the full support of the family.”

Mr Dorries said: “It’s a rare occurrence.

“There are all sorts of rules and regulations and it is very complicated.”
