POLICE are no longer treating as suspicious the death of a man found slumped at the bottom of steps at the end of a gennel in Chapeltown in the early hours yesterday, writes Claire Lewis.

The body of the 54-year-old was discovered by a passer-by at around 2am.

He has not yet bee named by police but is said to be local.

Police said his body was found at the junction of Glenwood Crescent and Cowley Lane.

Officers were treating it as suspicious as a matter of routine.

Cowley Lane was blocked off for a time to traffic between Nether Lane at one end and the Market Place roundabout at the other.

Only residents who lived near the crime scene were being allowed past police officers blocking the roads off. But all roads are now re-opened.
