Sheffield MP David Blunkett has blasted the Government for effectively ‘off-shoring’ city jobs.
Former Home Secretary Mr Blunkett, Labour MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, criticised the Government for allowing certain departments to outsource jobs to other countries, while simultaneously emphasising the importance of job creation.
Fellow city Labour MP Paul Blomfield, member for Sheffield Central, has already initiated a debate in Parliament about how jobs in the city have been put at risk by privatised operations controlling parts of the Ministry of Justice – and placing the work out of the country.
Mr Blunkett said: “The cabinet office minister in charge of procuring service, Francis Maude, has written to me confirming the programme of privatisation is leading to potential closure of facilities in Sheffield and the bizarre situation of jobs being placed in other parts of the world.
“The Government are always banging on about restricting immigration and therefore making jobs potentially available to British citizens.
“They are doing the exact opposite here.”
