Fun runners were showered from head to toe in a rainbow of colours during the first event of its kind in South Yorkshire.
Runners were pelted with pink, green, yellow, red and blue paint along a 5K course at Rother Valley Country Park for the Colour Dash event.
The participants were showered in the vibrant colours at every kilometre of the route, all to raise vital funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in North Anston.
By the finish line, all of the runners, joggers and walkers – many of whom had donned multi-coloured tutus, sun visors and neon sunglasses for the occasion – had the paint all over their clothes, arms, legs and faces.
Among the crowds of people taking part were Phoebe, Daisy and Lottie Tomlinson – sisters of One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, of Doncaster.
Lottie, aged 15, said: “It was really good fun, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
“Louis really supports us and he was excited for us to be helping out because he is a patron of Bluebell Wood.
“There’s such a good atmosphere here and there are so many people here supporting such a good cause.”
Another runner was Marie Power, 42, who lost her nine-year-old daughter Niamh two years ago.
Niamh, who had a brain tumour, and her family including dad Simon and brother Sebastian, now 13, all received incredible support from Bluebell Wood.
Marie, of Maltby, said: “Without Bluebell Wood, I don’t know what I would have done.
“We are very thankful for the homely environment they gave us. It enabled her to live her last days as comfortably as possible with close friends and family there.
“They even got the Tropical Butterfly House to come up with some animals. A meerkat fell asleep on her pillow right beside her – she loved that.
“That is one of my last memories of her.”
Helen Mower, head of fundraising at Bluebell Wood, said: “It was an inspiring event and truly wonderful to see so many people getting messy and having a good time while raising sponsorship for Bluebell Wood.
“Thank you to everyone for creating a fantastic atmosphere and for making this such a colourful and fun event.
“We’re very grateful for all the support we’ve received, it’s been amazing.”
