TWO motorists have been prosecuted for fraudulently using blue badges.

Alan Dixon, aged 73, of Sycamore Avenue, Wickersley, Rotherham, was found guilty by Rotherham magistrates of using his dead son–in–law’s blue badge to park his car on Wharncliffe Street in Rotherham town centre on December 22 last year.

Dixon did not attend court and was fined £525 and ordered to pay £309 costs and the £15 victim surcharge.

Mohammed Mobeen Yasin, 44, of St Anns Road, Rotherham, pleaded guilty by letter to using her blue badge on two occasions when she was not there.

He was fined £100 for each offence and was ordered to pay the £15 victim surcharge.

Rotherham Council parking services manager Martin Beard said: “These are excellent results in the fight against blue badge fraud.

“Hopefully, people will realise that we mean business and we will continue to catch and prosecute blue badge cheats.”
