God's Own County's symbolic white rose was overwhelming winner with more than 2,500 votes, pudding Yorkshire pud into second spot from five symbols.

Plusnet's ideogram will now follow in footsteps of taco and avocado to join hallowed hall of smilies fame after submission to Unicode Consortium for inclusion on Android and iPhone keyboards.

Inspired by Yorkshire’s proud heritage, other options included beloved Yorkshire Terrier; proper pot of tea snugly fitted with cosy and classic flat cap.

The company's senior Tyke, CIO Stew Welbourne, said: “Yorkshire Day was a time for us to celebrate our distinctive identity. What better way to do this than our very own emoji based on Yorkshire’s most famous symbol".
