Blind war veteran Eric's leap of faith - PICTURES
AN 84-year-old blind war veteran took a leap of faith when he abseiled down a Sheffield church.
Eric Cooper, who used to serve in the Army with the Sherwood Forest Regiment, scaled down St Mary's Church, Bramall Lane, which measures 40 metre in height, to raise money for Sheffield's Royal Society for the Blind.
With a motto of "if you rest, you rust" Eric is no novice to terrifying challenges, after having already carried out another charity abseil and a zip slide.
Over the last five years he has also run more than 40 miles doing fitness challenges to raise cash for charity.
And he is keen to do a tandem parachute jump next.
Eric said: "My parents were married here in 1922, my sister was baptised here in 1923 and I was baptised here in 1925, so the church has real meaning to my family."
