RESIDENTS on a Barnsley street were warned to stay indoors by firefighters over fears that a gas cylinder was at risk of exploding.
Concerns were raised when a garage went up in flames on Engine Lane, Shafton, Barnsley and the owner told firefighters that there was an acetylene cylinder inside.
A 200 metre cordon was put in place around the garage and its owners, who live next door, were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Other residents on the street were advised to stay inside their homes.
The fire broke out at 8.10pm on Tuesday and destroyed the garage and a Volkswagen Golf parked inside.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way but the Fire Service said the blaze is believed to have started accidentally.
