YOUNG Maltese football fans with Down’s Syndrome had a day to remember when they met members of Sheffield United’s first team.
The youngsters had a kickabout with Blades stars at the national stadium in Malta during the team’s pre-season tour of the island.
The players met more than 20 youngsters from the country’s Down’s Syndrome Association.
Marthese Mugliette, president of the Malta Down’s Syndrome Association, said: “We are delighted with how the event went. The United players practised with the young people for more than an hour.
“The group was so happy and excited and this will be a wonderful memory for them.
“To have the opportunity to play with professional footballers from England is incredible and we are very grateful to Sheffield United.”
United midfielder Nick Montgomery said: “It is important for the club to understand its responsibilities and take time out to get involved.”
