Blades cheque mix-up fails to keep Wolves from the door

IT'S the season for giving - which might explain why Blades fans ordering from the official merchandise catalogue are being asked to make their payment to a rival Championship club.

Thousands of Sheffield United supporters have been sent the catalogue - complete with an order form that clearly states cheques for Blades goods should be made payable to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. One fan who contacted The Star said: "It's unbelievable.

"Obviously someone has made a mistake, but to ask fans to make cheques payable to Wolves - who beat us in the Playoff Finals just a few years ago - is taking the mickey.

"I suppose it could be worse.

"We might have been asked to make our cheques out to Sheffield Wednesday."

Sheffield United spokesman Kevin Cookson said the problem had been detected - but not before some copies of the catalogue had been sent to fans.

He added: "Obviously this is a mistake caused by a production error.

"We share a merchandise consultant with Wolverhampton Wanderers and their name had been put on our forms inadvertently. This was only brought to our attention after the catalogues had been printed.

"Unfortunately by then some had been sent out and we have now amended the rest.

"We can only apologise for the error - and any cheques we receive made out to Wolverhampton Wanderers will be returned."
