THE Bishop of Sheffield has criticised a vote to reject plans for women bishops in the Church of England.

The Right Reverend Dr Steven Croft said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the decision by members of the Church’s general synod.

He said: “I give thanks to God for the ministries of the women in the Diocese of Sheffield. I value their ministries as do the parishes where they serve.

“I want to affirm my commitment to seeing women become bishops in the Church of England as soon as possible.”
