WHEN Jessica Downes was asked how she wanted to celebrate her 12th birthday her answer came as a bit of surprise.
Jessica, of Dore, said she wanted to take her friends alpaca trekking - and luckily she was able to fulfil her wish.
Mayfield Alpacas, near Ringinglow in Sheffield, has its very own herd of the weird and woolly wonders - and Jessica and her pals had such a good time they may just have started a new craze.
Alpacas owner Elaine Sharp said: “We’ve had so many enquiries we now plan for treks to take place on Saturdays throughout the year!” The treks will follow an alpaca trail around the perimeter of Elaine’s farmland, taking in views of surrounding countryside and paddocks.
“We will encourage trekkers to get involved with the haltering of their chosen alpaca, after a short talk on the dos and don’ts of alpaca trekking,” said Elaine.
