Binmen in Sheffield have gone on strike today and set up a picket line outside one of the city's bin lorry depots.

They tried to prevent lorries from leaving the Lumley Street depot, close to the waste incinerator near Park Hill, earlier this morning but some lorries have made it out on their rounds.

Police officers were reportedly called to the picket line earlier.

GMB Union members at Veolia Sheffield have gone on strike for one day, claiming the company has refused to settle a pay claim.

The union claims workers have been drafted in from other parts of the country to get the bin lorries out.

Veolia runs Sheffield Council's waste collection service.
