A former greyhound owner from Sheffield is on track to celebrate his 25th consecutive Christmas with a difference.
Sheffield-born Billy West, aged 67, from Norton, attends Owlerton Greyhound Stadium every Friday and has done for the past 25 years.
Billy, now retired, has not missed a Boxing Day brunch race meeting at the stadium since 1988.
He said: “I’ve been going ever since Owlerton started the Boxing Day brunch and race meet event, as well as every Friday throughout the year.
“I just love greyhound racing, it’s as simple as that. I used to own a few greyhounds and my interest in them has just grown and grown over the years.”
Billy stopped owning greyhounds in 2008, but he still cherishes the glass vase trophy he has at home after winning the private owners’ trophy 15 years ago with his dog Glee Emerald.
Gates open for Owlerton’s Boxing Day meet at 9.30am with the first race at 10.45am.
