Bill was a cutter above the rest

Have your say

I WAS around 17 when I first had a suit made to measure. No I did not go to Barney’s, I went to his cutter, the one and only Bill Mackley, who set up on his own in Corporation Street. You couldn’t rush him. He had his own pace. One thing that stood out with Bill’s suits, was he never put his name tag anywhere on the suit. Everyone who wanted to know who made your suit (and there were plenty) asked to look at the label. When they saw there was none they knew straight away it was not Barney’s, it was Mackley’s.
