A stunning 1966 Austin Healey belonging to Barnsley man Bill Donaldson has been awarded the 2011 Meguiar’s Club Showcase trophy at the prestigious Footman James Classic Motor Show in Birmingham.

The car went on display to crowds of over 90,000 at the city’s National Exhibition Centre, seeing off stiff competition to be crowned ‘best in show’.

Meguiar’s sales and marketing manager, Tom Clarke, said it was ‘a very worthy winner’.

Bill, aged 81, bought the car in early 2007.

He spent three-and-a-half years rebuilding it.

Bill said: “The car was in a bit of a mess and sold as a wreck. I carried out most of the restoration work myself, converting the car to right-hand drive.”

Bill said his win made him feel like a VIP, adding: “The Meguiar’s staff were so good and treated all of the finalists brilliantly.

“To win both the Donald Healey Trophy and now the Meguiar is fantastic.”

As well as a gleaming trophy for Bill to take home, his beautiful car will go on display at next year’s show.

His next goal is the 2013 European Healey Meeting.
