FOUR off-road motorcyclists have been hit with £60 fixed penalty notices after they were found on a restricted byway in the Peak District.
Police were patrolling High Rake, Longstone Edge, when they saw the riders breach the restrictions. Officers had been carrying out checks on the signs in the area ahead of an enforcement day.
PC Kevin Lowe said: “The Peak District National Park is here for everyone to enjoy, however it is extremely important that visitors, particularly in this case, riders of off-road motorcycles, only use lawful tracks which are called Byways Open to All Traffic.
“The police will take action against any rider or driver who transgresses on to any footpath, restricted byway or bridleway and we are working together with many members of the community, groups and agencies who have an interest in passing information to the police about illegal use of these specific areas.”
