A MOTORIST is seriously ill in hospital with a fractured skull, arm and leg following a head-on collision with a car.

The 18-year-old, who was riding an off-road bike, was involved in the smash with a silver Audi A3 TDI, driven by a 24-year-old, at the junction of Rockingham Road and Heaton’s Bank, Rawmarsh.

Police said it was reported to officers at the scene that the biker, from Rawmarsh, was travelling towards Parkgate and failed to give way at the junction.

He was rushed to Rotherham District General Hospital for treatment and was detained over the weekend.

The Audi driver, who is also from Rawmarsh, escaped without any injuries.

A police probe into the incident, which happened on Friday, at about 8.55pm is under way. Anyone with information can call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
