THE audience were all ears when a Sheffield professor took part in a touring show to help raise awareness of healthy hearing.
Prof Matthew Holley, from Sheffield University, shared information about the latest research developments in the world of hearing at the Bionic Ear Show, which visited Doncaster College for the Deaf.
Originally set up by Prof Holley, the show allows audience members to follow the path of sound as it travels through the ear canal, before showing how sound is encoded into nerve signals and transmitted to the brain.
The demonstration is carried out with the help of a 22ft long, working model of the hearing system - humorously claimed to be the ‘world’s largest ear’.
The talk was part of the Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering, which took place in various South Yorkshire venues.
