CHEAPER energy deals are being made available for Sheffield residents through a ‘collective switching’ scheme.
The initiative involves households gathering together to bulk-buy electricity and gas supplies, helped by Sheffield Council.
A council spokeswoman said: “We know energy prices are a real concern for Sheffield residents.
“We think the Government and regulators should do all they can to help reduce energy prices.
“However, we’ve found a way to help save you money on your home energy bills.
“We are offering a free collective energy switching scheme, which could save people an average of £150 per year on their energy bills.”
The council said its scheme is easy and quick to join and there is no obligation to commit long-term.
The first group purchase of energy will take place next month and residents wishing to join need to sign up before Monday, April 8.
People can sign up to the ‘Big Sheffield Switch’ via the council website www.sheffield.gov.uk, or by calling 0800 915 9096 or 0114 203 9202.
Derbyshire County Council is also operating a collective switching scheme. Visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/bigdeals or call the county council on 01629 533365 for details.
