COMMUNITY groups in Sheffield are breathing life back into the city’s green spaces.

The Big Spring Clean campaign, backed by The Star, has been adopted by schools, businesses and families as the sunny weather arrives.

Year 6 pupils at St Marie’s Catholic Primary rolled up their sleeves and grabbed litter-pickers to tidy up Fulwood Road and Endcliffe Park.

The campaign is organised by Sheffield Council, but groups and individuals are encouraged to arrange their own events across the city.

Residents in Firshill teamed up with horticulture trainees from Kier to turn a disused open space into a small park.

Schoolchildren at St Catherine’s Primary in Firshill also got involved, with pupils helping to plant flowers and clear up the area. And Friends of High Hazels Park have organised a clean-up in Darnall.
