What a great honour it was for me to be chosen to switch on the Christmas lights on Sunday, November 22. It will be a day I will never forget.
So many famous people to choose from, yet the Sheffield people chose a crazy old man who pushes a pram round trying to raise a million for Macmillan.
To all of you who voted for me and I’m not ashamed to say this, you made an old man of 76 cry, (loudly I might add).
It was so emotional yet so inspiring to see so many of you waiting in this freezing cold for the big switch-on.
I have said this many times that we have here in Sheffield some of the best, no I’m wrong, they are the best in the country.
I know because I have met so many of them.
Thank you all once again.
I switched those lights on for all of you in your city, my city of Sheffield, our city of Sheffield, the greatest place in all of England.
Thank you all so very much.
Best wishes and have a great Christmas.
