Bid to replace age-old charter

SHOPPERS are being called upon to breathe new life into Sheffield’s marketing charter.

Poet Ian McMillan, known as the Bard of Barnsley, is appealing for the public’s help to create a new document for the city. The original market charter was granted in 1296, allowing a weekly market every Tuesday and three-day fair once a year in Sheffield.

Now, an Arc Heritage project is creating a new charter for the 21st century.

An information stand will be open to contributions and for more information at the lower ground floor of Castle Market from 10am until 4pm next Tuesday.
