Sheffield’s ‘original Woman of Steel’ Bess of Hardwick is the latest person to sign up for Sunday’s Star Walk.

The legendary historical figure, aged 500, will be accompanied by her cook when she leaves her regular home of Manor Lodge to join in the fun at Hillsborough Park.

Volunteers from the Fire and Police Museum will also be bringing along some historical attractions of their own. There will be an old Volvo police car, a Dennis fire and rescue tender, as well as a fire engine bouncy castle.

Museum director Matthew Wakefield said: “Our vehicles are always popular. They are all out of service which means people can get more hands on with them.”

Sunday’s walk is a mile lap of the park, fundraising for the Women of Steel Statue Appeal. The fun starts at 10.30am with a warm-up from Activity Sheffield.

All ages are welcome. Entry is £5 for children and £10 for adults.
