Beryl lifts weight off Amrik's mind

SHEFFIELD'S oldest powerlifter believes he can hold the world crown aloft – with a bit of help from the city's oldest spiritual healer.

Most days, you'll find Amrik Singh down the Powerhouse Gym, in Sharrow, lifting weights as he prepares to take part in the Masters section of the World Powerlifting Championships in California, in October.

But his preparation is not all about pumping iron.

Amrik, aged 63, a car salesman from Bradway, knows he must ensure both body and mind are in tip-top order.

And that's why he's a regular on the treatment table of 70-year-old Reiki master Beryl Frazer, whom he swears not only has power to heal his injuries but can also help him focus his mind on the task ahead.

Amrik said: "I would thoroughly recommend Beryl. She helps me with my injuries and to focus and gain relaxation.

"Beryl also helped my wife with her arthritis and my nephew, who suffered a bad knee injury playing football.

"She definitely has the power of healing."

Former nurse Beryl 70, from Everingham Place, Longley, discovered her gift quite by chance, when a friend was suffering terrible migraines.

"I put my hands on top of her head and, in 20 minutes, the pain had gone – she has not suffered another since," said Beryl.

"I knew I had something different, as my hands were always very hot, summer and winter alike, and there was an energy surge going through them.

"I thought I'd better put it to good use and help people with health problems."

She studied a Spiritual Healing course for two years from 1999 and then went on to do a Reiki course with the Pilgrim Healers Group.

So how does it work? Said Beryl: "Some healers receive a picture on the conscious mind of the part of the body needing attention, a mental image of the heart, joint etc.

"Also pictured is the actual disharmony so the healer knows what the trouble is.

"It's first felt through the fingers, which travel lightly over the patient's body, sensations coming to the hands which may be linked to heat or cold.

"It is similar to the attraction a magnet has to steel.

"Inflamed or angry conditions often produce heat and this is helpful in indicating the areas of pain.

"The patient also feels heat emanating from the healer's hands and travelling deeply into the body."

Beryl's clients include powerlifters and runners as well as people who sufferer with arthritis, anxiety, deep depression and many other conditions.

And that's not the end of it. Beryl added: "The healing powers also work on animals and birds, and I have been able to help many with injuries and illness."
