A Doncaster paintballing site has blasted its rivals out of sight after being named the best in Europe – and among the world’s top 10.
Bawtry Paintball Fields was the only venue in the UK to make it into the thrill-seeking list compiled by news and entertainment website Buzzfeed – and owner Karl Broadbent is delighted by the prestigious accolade.
He said: “It is amazing, absolutely brilliant news. I found out we’d be included when I was abroad snowboarding and I thought it was bad news at first when I saw the email but was chuffed when I saw we’d been named as one of the best in the world.”
The 400-acre attraction, between Doncaster and Bawtry, opened in 1999 and has attracted thousands of enthusiasts to indulge in paintball battles as well as other extreme adventure activities.
One Direction stars Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik enjoyed a day out at the site last year and, earlier this week, League One play-off hopefuls Rotherham United visited the park to relax ahead of tonight’s crucial first leg encounter against Preston North End.
Bawtry Paintball Fields was ranked at number seven in the list with the rest of the top 10 being made up of paintball sites in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Karl said: “To be voted the best in Britain was good enough but to be number one in Europe is an incredible achievement.”
And he is not prepared to rest on his laurels just yet.
“I am close to bringing in some captured Iraqi tanks from the Gulf War to enhance the playing experience and we’re also looking at a high ropes course as well as tomahawk throwing and target archery.”
