Barnsley police keep in touch online

POLICE in Barnsley are going online to keep in touch with their local communities.

Darton and Dodworth Safer Neighbourhood Teams are the first areas in Barnsley to open their joint local community meeting to virtual participants as well as those who attend in person.

Residents will be able to contribute to the meeting from the comfort of their homes and participate in an online forum staffed by a member of the SNT, where they can engage in conversation with other members of the public and agencies, asking questions and receiving answers in real time.

The forums will be held every Thursday from 6.30pm and 8pm, with the first on Thursday September 2.

Darton and Dodworth SNT Insp Mark Spooner said: "All public views, opinions and concerns are important to us and can affect the way in which we police.

"We understand that attending a meeting on a certain date is not always convenient, so we are hoping people who can't attend will take advantage of this new online facility.

"This is a new way of working for us and we are looking forward to the possibilities it can bring in improving our service to you. The population is becoming engrossed in communicating online and it was only a matter of time until we followed the trend and incorporated it into our engagement process."
