A DETERMINED teen has secured a place in elite military unit the Royal Marines.
After completing a series of gruelling mental and physical entry assessments, Barnsley College student Ashley Holling, aged 18, will start a 32-week training course in October.
Ashley went on a trip to train with the Royal Marines as part of his course in public services.
The former Darton High School pupil praised the college for helping him ‘achieve his goals’.
He said: “I had wanted to become a firefighter before we went on the trip with college to train with the Royal Marines.
“It was the best part of my course and really made me determined to follow that path when I finished my studies.
“I had to do both written and physical assessments as an entry test and they were tough but I got through them and was so happy when I found out I had got a place.”
