More than half of the people seen at a healthy lifestyle roadshow in Barnsley were found to be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes UK and Bupa staged the roadshow in the town centre to raise awareness of the condition.
In total, 119 of the 224 individuals seen at the event were referred to their doctor for further tests and support because of their likelihood of developing Diabetes.
Phaedra Perry, Diabetes UK regional manager, said: “It’s very concerning that so many people in Barnsley have been identified as moderate or high risk of type 2 diabetes, particularly as there are already 14,700 people diagnosed with the condition in Barnsley. But our roadshow has given them a chance to get help from their doctor and to take a serious look at their health.”
