Plans for the redevelopment of Barnsley town centre are to be revealed this week.
A six week consultation will take place after the proposals – which will include artists’ impressions – are published on Friday.
Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman for place at Barnsley Council, said: “These are exciting times with some fantastic ideas.
“We’ll really put the market and retail shopping back in the heart of our town.”
Work to clear the Central Library on Shambles Street, so Barnsley College’s new sixth form can be built there, is under way.
And resurfacing work has started on several streets.
They will also get new street lights and furniture.
