JOB vacancies have almost doubled in Barnsley over the last year, according to employment and skills specialists Working Links.
The town led the way with a 94 per cent increase in vacancies – the second largest increase of any local authority area in Britain, after East Renfrewshire, in Scotland.
Doncaster recorded the region’s second biggest rise, with jobs up 43 per cent from last year, while vacancies in Rotherham increased by 1.6 per cent and those in Sheffield fell by almost three per cent.
Across Yorkshire, vacancies increased by 15 per cent, with vacancies in the energy sector almost quadrupling.
Working Links said: “It is encouraging to see such a high increase in the energy sector and we are expecting the renewable energy sector to continue to recruit people into this field well into the future.
“At Working Links, we are also finding a healthy number of vacancies in call centres.
“Employers are looking for people with the ability to multi-task. They are looking for candidates who are flexible in their approach to their work, as well as reliable. We are keeping in regular contact with employers to discuss any needs they may have to make sure candidates can remain in sustainable employment with them.”
