CUTS totalling £3 million are being proposed for children’s services in Barnsley which could put 63 jobs at risk and lead to the closure of children’s centres, youth clubs and business centres.
Formal proposals for Barnsley Council’s children, young people and families department are to be approved on February 28, and will need to be passed as part of the authority’s 2013-14 budget.
The largest single cut proposed is £1.68m from Integrated Youth Support Services, which would mean several of the town’s 15 youth clubs would close and others would have reduced hours. The council’s out-of-hours learning network is to cease.
Community learning centres and business centres will also be reviewed and could include the closure, or sale, of centres at Thurnscoe, Athersley and Grimethorpe, saving £450,000.
