NEW solar panels have been installed at two of the main sites at Barnsley College – which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of 102 return flights from London to Madrid each year.

The panels will generate up to a quarter of the energy the buildings need each year, on Old Mill Lane and at the Honeywell sports site.

According to Carbon Trust data, the total carbon reduction through the panels will be about 56.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

Corina Billing, college building surveyor, said: “The panels will make a big difference to our carbon emissions and in the long term are a much more cost effective and sustainable way to power our buildings.”
