FOUR horses, 20 pigs and a number of chickens died when a blaze ripped through a barn at a Stocksbridge farm.
The fire at Moor House Farm, Machin Lane, was discovered at 10pm on Monday.
Firefighters arrived to find the barn was engulfed in flames.
Livestock housed in the recently-built barn perished in the ferocious blaze.
Fire crews from Stocksbridge, Penistone, Tankersley and Rivelin dealt with the raging fire. They discovered there were a large number of gas canisters stored in the barn which had to be cooled to avoid the risk of an explosion.
Firefighters remained at the scene until 2.30am on Tuesday but had to go back to the farm a few hours later when smoke began pouring from the barn again.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is under way.
