Banking giant Santander has stepped in to prevent the loss of banking services in a Sheffield suburb.
The firm has agreed to take over the Halifax agency service at Parkway Insurance Services, Staniforth Road, Darnall.
Mike Robertson, of Parkway, said: “Our focus has been very much on providing a community based service.
“Our view is communities want a service they can access locally and they want to speak to real people they have got to know, on a face-to-face basis. Santander has committed to many locations across the UK where the Halifax has pulled out.”
Mr Robertson, of Darnall Traders’ Association, said he hoped the partnership with Santander would “contribute towards the future development and regeneration of Darnall and help it regain the prosperity and vitality for which it is much loved by many”.
The news comes after Darnall Forum reopened its post office.
