BANKERS have been getting bad press but these workers for HSBC in Sheffield are going out of their way to help vulnerable city residents.

Staff at the bank’s Commercial Centre, Europa Court, near the old City Airport, are helping as part of a pre-Christmas Giving Week.

They are raising funds for the Cathedral Archer Project’s Christmas dinner for homeless people - and plan to help at the event on December 21.

Kathy Markwick, commercial officer at the centre, said: “Instead of the usual Christmas Cards and canapés, we thought it would be great to support our local community.”

Planned activities include bag- packing at Morrisons, Catcliffe, on Thursday and Friday December 15 and 16, a Christmas hamper raffle, cake and mince pie sale. They will help the Archer Project by painting and decorating and serving food.

Kathy said: “The Archer Project is a fantastic organisation which engages homeless and vulnerably housed adults with relevant support services which can include providing food, hygiene facilities and access to medical services and other advisory support agencies.”

The Archer Project dinner costs £20 per head. Kathy is appealing for people to help fundraise to email kathymarkwick@hsbc.com or call 08455 831720.
