A VILLAGE brass band will put South Yorkshire on the musical map when it takes part in an Olympic-inspired event this summer.
Oughtibridge Brass Band is among 150 groups across the UK which have signed up for musical relay race Brass the Baton.
The project, organised by the British Federation of Brass Bands to celebrate London 2012, will see five conductors’ batons passed nationwide.
Each band will play a piece of music entitled Going the Distance.
Seb Coe, Sheffield sporting legend and chairman of the Games’ organising committee, said: “I am proud that with the help of partners such as the British Federation of Brass Bands we are delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in Brass Band music making throughout the country.”
Oughtibridge Training Band will take part in the blue-baton string of the relay race when members perform at the village’s gala sports night which is in Coronation Park, Oughtibridge, on June 20.
