Selling fireworks to the general public should be banned, according to an online poll of our readers.

After police were called out because of yobs playing with fireworks in Doncaster last night, our readers voted to ban selling to the public.

Thousands are enjoying fireworks at organised displays around the borough this week, and the poll on our website saw 84 per cent of the responses registered as votes to stop them being available for sale to everyone.

The other 16 per cent of responses were in support of sales to the general public.

Our readers commented on the issue on social media.

Lesley Baxter said: “Where are they buying fireworks from? They should be banned and only organised displays be allowed.”

Trish Cowling: ”When are they going to stop selling fire works to the general public?”

Billy Clayton said: “Fireworks should only be available to organisations doing registered displays with license only not public.”
