A WOMAN who caused the death of a Barnsley motorcyclist through careless driving has escaped jail.
Laura McDaid, aged 20, of Mapplewell, Barnsley, was given community service and banned from getting behind the wheel for two years after pleading guilty at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court to driving without due care and attention.
McDaid admitted causing the crash which led to the death of Paul McGrath, 47, in Darton last year.
Mr McGrath, who was from Darton, died after his blue Honda bike was in collision with a blue Mazda 2 on Darton Lane on March 23. A flood of floral tributes was laid at the scene following the crash.
McDaid received a 24-month disqualification. She was also ordered to do 150 hours’ unpaid work and pay £145 costs.
