READERS have said a resounding ‘yes’ to the prospect of furniture giant Ikea opening in Sheffield.
As reported in The Star, the Swedish firm is eyeing up the city for a potential store and readers on our Facebook fan page - www.facebook.com/sheffieldstar - have been backing the idea.
Caroline Ailmore said: “It’s all right going to Nottingham, but I would prefer to have Ikea on my doorstep.”
David Fidler posted: “More jobs would be created. Plus I love doing flat packs.”
And Mike Haver said: “Definitely yes - Ikea at the end of the Parkway would be ideal.”
Ikea first considered opening a store in the city more than 10 years ago, but the scheme never went ahead.
A firm spokesman has said: “Ikea has been identifying sites around the country for potential stores, including the area of Sheffield. However, we have nothing to confirm at this point in time.”
In May, Les Sturch, Sheffield Council development director, said there had been ‘long-standing conversations about potential sites’ but no discussions about particular locations.
