Bach charity marathon
FORGET Amy Winehouse - Sheffield organist Derek Grover is going back to Bach.
Derek, assistant organist at St John's Church Ranmoor, will play all 48 preludes and fugues of the Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach starting at 1pm on Sunday.
He hopes to complete the musical marathon in aid of Christian Aid week, and it will form part of the St John's May Music Festival.
Derek said: "This unique event amounts to four and a half hours of music, played upon a beautiful copy of an 18th century harpsichord."
There is no entrance fee for people who want to hear some or all of the performance but sponsorship is instead invited - log on to www.justgiving.com/derekgrover or fill in a sponsorship form on the day.
An anonymous donor has already pledged 20 per fugue and 60 for the final fugue - totalling 1,000.
