PROUD members of Sheffield’s Somali community came together for an event to recognise the efforts of young people and groups who help them.

The Outreach Improvement Project awards ceremony was at Sheffield Town Hall and attended by more than 150 people.

Winners this year included Mohamed Saeed, a pupil at Silverdale School, Adel Mohamed, who went to Fir Vale Secondary and Ilhan Mohamed for outstanding achievement in their GCSEs.

Omer Mohamed, a Hallam University student, won outstanding achievement at college level for his A-level results, while Mohamed Mohamed was awarded outstanding achievement at higher education and university for achieving a masters degree in pharmacy.

Muna Faraj received the same award for achieving a first class honours degree in Education Studies.

Mustafa Ali took the outstanding achievement in religious studies, while Ahmed Shakir, a company managing director studying for an MBA in leadership, was named most inspirational career person.

Education worker Mulki Galal was awarded for outstanding contribution in the community.
