A popular subpostmaster from Sheffield is celebrating 30 years behind the counter of his post office.
Former banker Richard Jenkin began running the Woodhouse Mill branch in 1984 when his father-in-law was subpostmaster.
He joined as an assistant and eventually took over the branch.
To mark the milestone Richard, aged 62, was presented with a long service award from the Post Office.
He said: “I’ve been running the branch with my wife Janette for 30 years and we’ve had thousands of friendly customers down the years. Some of our customers have probably been here as long as us too. The years have slipped by. It seems crazy.
“When I first started I never thought I was going to stay here this long. We’ve managed to keep growing the business.”
Richard was one of the first subpostmasters to use a computerised back office system in the 1980s.
