Author drops in on school

CHILDREN'S author Jeremy Strong brought a touch of his weird and wonderful humour to Sheffield when he visited a class of competition-winning schoolkids.

Jeremy, who lives in Somerset, made the trip up north to see pupils from Norfolk Community Primary School on Guildford Avenue, Norfolk Park, after they won first prize in a review-writing contest organised by Sheffield Schools' Library Service.

All the children had written a review of their favourite book and handed them in at Manor Library when they went to study. The school's pupils were praised for the quality of their critiques.

Jeremy has published 77 children's novels with titles including 'My Mum's Going to Explode' and 'There's a Viking in my Bed', and has a special interest in kids becoming independent readers and those who are not particularly interested in reading.

He signed copies of the kids' favourite books and chatted to the children about what it takes to become an author. The headmaster left the teaching profession in 1991 to become a writer full time.
