an AUTHOR’S books are flying off the shelves at a Sheffield college after he visited students there.

Bali Rai, who has won awards for his novels aimed at young people, called in to Longley Park sixth-form college.

He led creative writing workshops, handed out prizes in a creative competition and was also interviewed by media students for a college publication.

Donald McLean, vice principal at the Firth Park college, said; “Bali delivered a powerful and exciting talk to our students which they really engaged with and they certainly enjoyed the time they spent with him.

“He showed students how they can draw on their own knowledge and experiences and put them into their own creative writing.

“His books have now flown off the shelves in the learning resource centre.”

Bali spoke about encouraging reading and writing during his visit.

He also touched on subjects surrounding multiculturalism, ethnicity, citizenship and politics.

Winners of the creative competition, which was themed around My Favourite Place, were students Rabia Khan, Jamie-Leigh Graham and Peshawa Ghaffur.
