A MAN is critically ill in hospital after being set upon in an apparently unprovoked attack in Sheffield.
The 44-year-old sustained serious head injuries after he was assaulted on his way home from a night out.
He is currently receiving treatment in hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.
The incident occurred on Archer Road, near to Laycocks Sports and Social Club, shortly after midnight last Saturday into Sunday.
Detectives are appealing for information, and trying to establish the full circumstances, but said the incident appeared to be an unprovoked attack.
Police are looking for two white males in their late teens or early 20s, who were possibly in the company of a woman.
